Playoff Beards
One of the few good things about finals is the sudden appearance of playoff beards. The playoff beard is one of those things which say, "Hey, I'm working hard and therefore don't have time to shave." It is the only time a bunch of people in Texas will act like hockey players. I like that we're borrowing traditions from hockey. Next we should adopt fighting. Remember kids, drop the gloves and THEN pull the jersey over the other guy's head.
Unfortunately, at the end of the week, no one will hand me a large trophy to skate around. Which is one of life's little disappointments. But there will be a party, so I guess that will be okay instead.
And don't worry, the beards will disappear on Friday. They lose their power after finals and therefore must be shaved off.

Go Canes! After an injury filled 06-07 campaign, the jeffy-loved hurricanes are off to a better start in the nacent NHL season.
Note of trivia:
The North/South Carolina area has only two professional championships. A WUSA championship by the now defunct Carolina Courage and a Stanley Cup from the Hurricanes.
I can't grow a beard.
North Carolina cruelly stole the beloved Whalers. But Bret Hedican (pictured) was named by playoffbeard.com as the owner of the greatest playoff beard. This was not meant to be an endorsement of the Canes.
Nor, apparently, was it an endorsement of the Rev.
I prematurely shaved mine off tonight. Hope that wasn't a mistake.
As for hockey traditions, the other real good one is when the players go down a line and shake hands after the game little league style. classy.
I don't know, judging by the way the freshman acted while "guarding the Flame," I guess there are some parts about the fighting hockey tradition they understand.
My playoff beard didn't quite make it to today. The playoff sideburns survived, however...
i think lacy is in the background of that picture.
love,
Matt
