Good luck to LSU in the CWS. This year has been a great turn around for them.

P.S. When did UCI get a football team?

For those of you who don't know, LSU beat UC-Irvine to qualify for the College World Series by a score of 21-7. In a baseball game.

i was wondering when this was coming...

Here's my break-down:

LSU has an great offense but the Carolina pitching staff is the best in the business. Coastal Carolina scored 37 runs in their regional before managing to tally only one run in two games against the Carolina starters in the super regionals. Against LSU, we'll be trotting out sophomore sensation and ACC Pitcher of the Year Alex White who is 10-3 on the year.

On the offensive side, UNC sports a balanced offense, with any player capable of breaking out for a big game, but look for Tim Fedroff, Tim Federowicz, and Dustin Ackley to lead the Tar Heel offense which has scored 50 runs in 5 NCAA tournament games.

For LSU to prevail, look for them to attempt to drive the starter out and get to UNC's middle relief, which has shown some weakness since the ACC tourney.

Another key will be errors. When UNC has 0 or 1 errors in a game, they are virtually unbeatable. But only around .500 when they committ two or more errors.

It should be a good game, but coming off back-to-back appearances in the championship series, the NCCA tested Tar Heels should prevail over the more inexperienced Tigers.

Suprisingly, LSU's defense is really good which is not something can usually say. Well, I guess you could say it, but you'd be very wrong. Now, they've got a stellar outfield, a 3B who only made 2 errors in SEC play and a rangy shortstop who has finally learned to stop rushing his throws.

Our hitting, as per the norm, is frighteningly good. FSU gets all the hype, but LSU's scoring over 8 runs a game and we have the nation's HR leader. Our #9 hitter hit 10 homers and stole 10 bases. There just isn't an easy out in the lineup.

LSU doesn't have an elite starter. Verdugo is good and gives us a puncher's chance, but he is not gonna dominate a team. UNC has a huge edge in starting pitching with Alex White. But LSU's bullpen is a lot better than UNC's. Not only is it effective, there are lots of options, not just one elite closer. Instead, LSU has three or four shutdown setup men. So expect 5 innings of Verdugo and then Cain, Bertuccini, Bradshaw, and Coleman to come in. UNC has to get to LSU early.

I scoff at your 50 runs. LSU scored 36 runs in 3 games in their regional, topping 10 in every game. And then they scored another 35 against UCI in 3 games. That's 71 runs in 6 games. And UCI had a team ERA below 3 before they met LSU. So the Tigers have lit up some good pitchers.

I expect a good game as well and agree with the analysis that LSU wants to get to the bullpen. UNC wants to score as much as they can in the first 5 innings, because things get harder in the late innings. And LSU are the comeback kids.

I'm pretty pumped. I promise to root for the Heels except when they play LSU.
